Analytical Study and Noise Mitigation for Complex-Valued Optical DSB Transmission With Carrier-Assisted Differential Detection Receiver

A thorough analysis of the system model for complex-valued optical double-sideband (DSB) transmission with carrier-assisted differential detection (CADD) receiver under influence laser phase noise and fiber chromatic dispersion (CD) is presented. It shown that interaction CD leads to phenomenon phase-to-amplitude (P2A) equalization-enhanced (EEPN). The achievable performance DSB CADD EEPN P2A estimated by a closed-form expression, it verified simulation results show an inaccuracy less than 1 dB wide range parameters. In addition, in order mitigate noise, we propose pre-decision aid-based simplified blind search (BPS) algorithm, commonly referred as PDA-BPS algorithm. algorithm allows reduced complexity decreasing number symbols entering BPS Theoretical derivation verification illustrate can achieve similar mitigation lower complexity. Specifically, condition classification decision threshold R equal 0.25, be 40%/16.6% MHz/7 MHz linewidth 16-QAM 29%/10.9% 0.5 MHz/3 64-QAM.
